Decent but too loud
I was disappointed that this came looking used and scratched as you can see, I bought two and they both looked like this there was no plastic to peel off the face of the clock as you would expect from a new product.I still gave it a 3 star because I’ve already bought and returned a couple other clock radios that the radio did not come in well at all. I wanted a clock radio that had soothing sounds and a ceiling projection which proved difficult to find for a decent price. It works fine so far I’ve had them in each of my boys rooms for a couple months or so. I will say the sound volume is too high on even the lowest setting, but it is what it is. I could not sleep with it on the lowest volume but my kids don’t seem to mind, though my five year old did ask for the sound to be turned down and it couldn’t be. Also the light is a bit bright for me but again they don’t mind it, they just don’t need any other kind of night light now so it’s fine. I do enjoy that it comes with a port on the back you can charge your iPhone on, they don’t use it but it’s nice that it’s there. So overall it’s not terrible but could be better.

Great Mulit-Use Replacement
Got this to replace a nature sound app to go to sleep, and a radio alarm app to wake-up. Said apps stopped being dependable, only frustrating. This also replaced my previous digital clock w/ room-temp. The built-in charger/holder and clock projector are nice features. Totally recommend!

Simple and easy to use…
Small enough to fit in the nightstand without overcoming space. Bright light is nice, sounds are nice too.

Works great for sound machine and clock
Very easy to use, sound great. As one other reviewer pointed out. The projected clock is backwards on the ceiling. I’ll go to their website and see if I can figure out a way to fix it. I didn’t buy it for that feature and will just turn it off which is easy to do.

Super nice
This product is super nice. The sound library is great. We like the white noise and water sounds. I absolutely love the projection feature. My husband has it on his night stand because he needs the alarm for work. My eye sight is very poor without my glasses and I can’t read the time with it that far away. However the projector feature projects the time on the wall to my side of the bed beautifully and I can easily read the time without my glasses. Love that! I highly recommend.

Photo is deceiving
I thought the clock would display a blue projection, as pictured. It does not- it was bright white! Could not sleep with it illuminating my entire bedroom. :(Otherwise it was perfect: USB charging, several nature sounds, the color of the clock.

White noise is mid-pitch, if you’re wondering.
I own two large white noise machines, one on each side of my bed. This clock/noise machine puts out white noise that is one pitch below them, which puts it (I believe, not sure though) in the pink noise range. It’s loud enough for me, however I do have it inside a small wooden crate along with other things. It doesn’t really amplify it as much as direct it. Clock isn’t that bright to me (it’s below the level of my mattress however so that may be it) and keeps good time, alarm works fine. Projector I do not use but it works fine as well.

It Has Issues
Two issues, but overall a good deal and it functions well for the most part. I wish it had more variety to the sounds and wish the volume could go lower. The variety of nature sounds isn’t a deal breaker, but the volume almost is. If the point of the nature sounds is to help you sleep, having it too loud to fall asleep with defeats the purpose. On the flip side, if the volume is turned as low as possible to try to fall asleep, the sound is too low to wake up with.I would have returned it, but it was a good price, I like the ceiling time projector and I’m able to use my phone to fall asleep and wake up.

the projector display is top notch
I bought it for the projector, and so far I am not disappointed at all. The display is soft white, and easily visible in the middle of the night. It is fantastic and doesn’t feel like a cheap plastic toy like some of the other ones. Very happy with this one.

Mostly good but loud
Overall, a nice little sound machine/projection clock. I have been sleeping with a sound machine for about 15 years. I also wanted a projection clock. This saves space by combining the two. I’m taking off one star because the sound machine is quite loud even on the lowest setting (level 1). The old Homedics sound machine I have has a volume dial that’s nice and I wish this one had that as well. I had to cover the speaker with a cloth to quiet it down a bit.

bright lights
sounds are good, non repetitive and adjustable, sleep timer is good. radio plays well, dual alarm feature is nice and easy to use. ceiling projector clear and flip-able depending on where you project the time. Drawback is that the light with the projector lights up the whole room, fine if you want a night light. Not so bad with being able to turn off the front display BUT, if you have the sleep timer on for the sound, you can’t turn off the front display as the brightness button and the sleep timer settings are the same button. Again, great if you like some light in the room.

It works but has 2 minor faults.
It is a terrific clock although there are two little things I have a problem with.1.) the projector does not rotate its image so if you want the time on the ceiling to be shown a certain way as you’re laying down (vertical, horizontal, diagonal, etc.), the clock has to also be positioned at a certain angle on your shelf.2.) the buttons on the clock aren’t very dimensional. My point being when you reach up blind to turn off your alarm, it is difficult to find the button because you have difficulty feeling it with your fingers.

Low Volume is Loud for a Reason
I felt compelled to write a review as I was almost dissuaded by some of the “too loud” comments. The volume, even on the lowest setting IS loud, however, the speaker is near a cell phone holster. When my phone is in this holster, the volume is perfect for me and my space. I’ll put my phone here even if it isn’t charging.Beyond this topic, the sound machine aspect does it’s job very well. The time projector is a nice bonus, but does create more light so I don’t use it very often. This machine feels like it will travel really well as it doesn’t have any superfluous knobs, etc. Overall, its exactly what I wanted and has the bonuses if I ever need them.

Very nice.
Great sound machine. Great time projector. Easy to operate. Very good looking. Much better than the previous one I had from Homedics. It is very bright but you can turn off the projector and dim the time display.

Pros & Cons
I like the look & size of the clock radio but will be returning it for a couple of reasons: Radio sound is pretty good, but I don’t like the pitch of “white noise” selection, which is the only sound selection I’m interested in. I also notice the looping, which is driving me a little crazy. Have had other Homedics sound machines in past where this was not an issue. Also, it would have been nice if there were presets for the radio, and if buttons, such as “volume,” were a little raised instead of flat as well as lit. As it is, if you want to change the volume at night, you have to turn on a light to see where the button is. Even if if buttons were raised & not lit, you might be able to figure out what you’re doing by touch, but without both, it’s nearly impossible & you might end up pressing the alarm button, etc., instead. Poorly designed.

I love the clock which projects on the wall or ceiling, but, the numbers are backwards. I’m sure I need to do something to alleviate this issue, as well as the number 1 alarm, which I cannot seem to turn off!My issues I believe!

So many features, this is one Great clock!
Bought two of these clocks, one as a Christmas present and liked it so much, bought one for myself! Love, love the feature of the time projection on the ceiling. The sounds feature is great to fall asleep to as well. The size is good for my small bedside table. Love this clock!

Finally found my perfect alarm clock
I’ve been hunting around for a while to find an alarm clock that had gentle nature sounds. It’s actually harder than I thought. I bought another popular product that has a sunlight feature to wake up to with natural sounds, but you CAN’T turn off the light-up feature. It activates 30 minutes BEFORE I am supposed to wake up. No thanks! I will wake up at the time I set. Anyways … this clock has nice sounds. You can select from several of them, set the volume level, set 2 different alarm times. It’s great. The time projection is so-so. I felt it was a bit too bright, and you can’t change the orientation much. For me where I put my alarm clock, it projected the time upside-down. This alarm clock has a nice feel to it, like it is better quality. Overall, the perfect alarm clock for me.

Great alarm clock.
This alarm clock is easy to use and has some nice features, such as two alarms, temperature display, and projector. Unfortunately, the volume control needs to have finer adjustment. There is too big a step between the volume settings, resulting in a sounds that are a little bit too soft or a little bit too loud. Sound quality is adequate – This is a clock radio, not a Hi-Fi System.

Excellent Projector
I have had one other clock like this but this one is clearly the best. The projector displays a very clear time on the ceiling, and the different sounds it makes are excellent. I am thinking of buying another for the guest room. I cannot find anything about this clock that I don’t like

Overall disappointing. Would not recommend. (From previous Homedics customer)
I bought this to replace my old Homedics projection clock which had served me many years. I was sadly disappointed and returned it for refund after only a week. The main issues of dissatisfaction were the main reasons I bought it in the first place. 1) the projection time was way too bright. It was very much a bright flashlight with an LCD in front of it. There was no way to dim the projection. It was either full-blast too bright or off completely. 2) I could not get the projection to be in focus. When ignoring the brightness issue, it was also out of focus. In theory, twisting the lens focuses the projection, but despite twisting, I never saw a crisp focus. 3) the main clock face was also two bright, even on low. 4) the nature sounds . . . There were all pretty bad. My old Homedics clock had canned loops that sounded much better than this clock. I falsely assumed that the recordings were going to be better with the new clock – sadly, I was wrong. Most disappointing to me was the “ocean” sound with was really nothing more than undulating white-noise hiss. There was one sound that was OK … the “campfire” sound … but all the others were very short loop and not particularly pleasant (in my opinion. The button layout and all that was good enough. I cannot speak to the durability or long term experience.Overall, disappointing. Would not recommend.

I did not find much to like about this product
Once again, I have offended this product and made it play the radio at 12 AM and 6 AM. I will have to find instructions to cut it off online, because mine didn’t come with any.At least the radio works. The sounds are on some short cycle that is very annoying. I was thinking I would drift off to sleep listening to the rain or being lulled to la-la-land by the gentle cycle of the waves falling on the shoreline. Forget that. There isn’t a single sound tract that makes me want to sleep. Not one. And it won’t go to a soft sound. The lowest volume setting is still loud to me.I know I should have returned this to Amazon, and they would have refunded my money. But the time it would have taken to find a box, do the paperwork, pay the restocking fee, and take it to the post office — it just wasn’t worth it to me.

Very good Clock radio…
I bought this and it works great- but there is one problem with it; The readout is too bright, even adjusted to it’s low setting…It casts shadows in the room at night! Most alarm clocks readouts are RED, but this one is Bluish-white. (As an aside, Blue light is bad at night because it tells your brain to “Wake up!”I solved this problem by buying a sheet of “Tail light repair film” at the local O’Reilly’s (Trimbright, $1.59) and cut a piece to fit over the readout…It dims it slightly, but red does not project as much as the bluish-white readout. I now have the readout on it’s medium setting and it is perfect.

It is good but does loop.
I ordered this because I wanted a non-looping thunderstorm sound to sleep. This one loops and I mean you get a few claps and then it loops. I find it annoying after a few minutes. I do like the volume and the other sounds are all okay as a loop does not matter as much to campfire or ocean. I really wanted the thunderstorm though. I took off a star for that since it advertised as non-looping. The projector is okay and it is an attractive machine. It does have good sounds, including the thunderstorm. It just loops though. I would not have bought it if I had known that. I think they should stop advertising it as non-looping

Worth it for sleeping noises and ceiling display alone
I normally used my smartphone for white noise and morning alarm. My alarm failed to go off one morning because I didn’t have it plugged into the charger. I purchased this as a backup alarm and thought the clock projection and sleep sounds might be worth a try. It turns out the best features of the device are great sleeping sounds and being able to glance at the ceiling or wall to see what time it is without cranking your neck at it.I would give it 5 starts if either the alarm was schedulable (it’s either on or off) or if the buttons on top were illuminated so they can be seen in the dark.

Sleepless in NC
I love this clock and purchased it specially for the sound machine. The power button for the sound machine is difficult to find in the dark and it took some time to get used to the lowest level of the sound machine, it is really loud! Overall I will keep this….the sounds are nice, just wish I could lower it a bit more.

Great clock
Lots of good sounds. I like that you can dim the backlight to no light, so it does not light up a dark room. I miss the feature that their old clock have of setting the projector to only display temporarily when you snooze the alarm, but other than that, this clock is awesome.

I used “dim It” sheets to lower the light intensity on the numbers
I prefer radio/sound alarm clocks. My cell phone is turned off at night and only the landline phone is available for emergencies. It’s true that It’s extremely bright, but the clock radio is otherwise excellent. The radio sound on my old clock radio was awful after 20 years. I also used “dim it dots” on the wall projection circle. The extra cost was worth it to me and I used the extra dim it dots on my fan, space heater, landline phone, etc. so it wasn’t wasted on just the alarm clock. I’m pleased with the darkness of my room now! It’s true that the sound is rather loud because my radio is kept on the number 1 setting and can’t go lower, but I remedied this by putting a bit of clear shipping tape over part of the speakers in the back so it’s not even visible. If you keep your clock across the room or even a few feet away you might be fine with it.

Love the sleep sounds
I love this clock/radio, especially for the sleep sounds. I live not far from a highway and like to sleep with the windows open. I need the “white noise” to fall asleep. This little guy has a number of great choices and an easy to use timer. The size is compact and the clock and radio work fine. I’m not crazy about the time projector, it’s too bright on the wall or ceiling for me, and the alarms are not super-intuitive, that’s why I gave it only 4*

Compact Unit, Great Nature Sounds and Nice Projection Feature
Our old clock radio died and my husband asked for a digital projection feature in our new one. I found this and liked the idea of the nature sounds. We both love the nature sounds (the ocean especially) and my husband is thrilled with the projection feature. When he wakes up while it’s still dark, he can see what time it is without having to sit up and turn to see the unit on the bedside table. The unit is very compact and the projection light is a cool blue/white and isn’t too bright, and I’m pretty sensitive to light. Our ceilings are 10 feet high and the time projection is pointed away from me to the corner of the room to where my husband can see it while sleeping on his side. The “:” in between the numbers blink in the projection, but it isn’t an issue for us. We also love the “Snooze” feature where you can go to sleep to the nature sound of your choice for 15, 30 or 45 minutes, or you can simply leave it on all night. I understand that the sounds are all on loops, but we can’t tell at all. I have a separate sound bar to charge and play music from my phone, so this is the perfect thing for telling time, going to sleep to peaceful sounds and having an alarm (although we haven’t tried setting an alarm yet. I wake up early with the sun.)

Can tell where the sound is spliced together
I like the clock, I like the reflection of the number on the wall but I wish I could say I like the sound (which is why I bought it in the first place). The sound is not a steady sound there are places where you can tell the sound is looping and it is annoying as heck when you are trying to go to sleep. Some of the sounds it is WAY more noticeable than others.

Good but I’m returning it.
This clock works great and has good sound and good FM radio. However, I do not like that there are no buttons to feel your way around in the dark. The only “button” is the Alarm/dimmer button. Every other option from source to tuning to volume is a touchpad. You have to memorize where things are and sometimes in the dark, in the middle of the night, that is difficult. The volume control does not go low enough for me. Even at level one…..I felt it was too loud. However, the cell phone cradle in the back is also where the speaker is. Once I stuffed a washcloth into that space the sound level was diminished but still did not provide me with enough control. The sounds themselves are quite nice. The clock screen is dimmable but again, does not offer enough control for my tastes. Thankfully I purchased a dimming sheet also. I think I bought this one only because of the price point and the sounds but after using only one night, I will be returning it and getting another and unfortunately higher priced one. This time, one with buttons I can feel in the dark and hopefully one with volume dial rather than a number of pre-selected volume levels.I ordered a white HoMedics Model SS 45-20 from Target. (price) I plugged it in to compare with the black one pictured here.1. Both have good nature sounds.2. the white one has buttons you can feel in the dark.3. The clock face brightness is brighter on the white one than they black. I solved this problem with buying a dimmer sheet. It would be nice if both dimmer and clock face were amber instead of blue. Blue light is neither good for the eyes or for sleeping and going back to sleep.4. the volume control on the white one provides far more control. I can now get the sound down to a very soft level if I want. The black one was too loud even on the lowest volume level of one.5. Projection feature on the black one will rotate 180 degrees front to back……on the white one, it only goes less than 90. You can focus it however and I found projecting forward was good for me. the projection is BRIGHT. Too bright for my tastes. Again, dimmer film or not using it was the answer. It took a double layer of film to get it dim enough not to bother me, yet I can still see it projected on the ceiling just fine.6. USB is not a feature on the white one. I really like that idea on the black one too.7. Neither have AM radio or presets. That might be asking too much huh?I wish a clock radio with nature sounds could be made with amber clock and projection light, USB connection, at least 180 projection, volume level down to a whisper, at least 8 quality nature sounds, and presets, all for under $40. Target also had a better price.

Packed with features at a good price
We’ve been using Homedics Recharged Alarm Clock & Sound Machine for a few months now. I like to write reviews after having a product for a little while. I saw a few reviews talking about the materials the clock is made of. We’ve not had any issues and the clock seems to be well built. The clock is easy to program. I really like the fact that it remembers the alarm time and automatically resets it self for the next day. The sound is very good and the radio is easy to tune.Nice selection of sounds with the sound machine. You can set how long the sound plays as you fall asleep and still use the alarm feature to wake up in the morning.I’ve only used the clock projector a few times. It focuses easily and was easy to see on the ceiling or wall. Also used the battery backup feature. The clock remembers the time and any alarms that are set. What the battery backup will not do is sound the alarm while the power is off.

Not what I ordered
I loved this projection alarm clock for 2 years. 1 month after the warranty would have expired, had I bought it, the display does not fully light up. I ordered a new one to replace it and was sent one in an open and busted open box. It had a cord haphazardly pushed into the box and the product was covered in dust. Extremely disappointed that this malfunctioned so quickly, but angry with the condition of the “new” one. It is being returned.

Great clock.. small issue
Got this back in 2019. Out of the box it was great with all the features, really like the sounds you can set along with a timer, never used the projection feature. The display was VERY bright at night. It could be used as a night light. (It has a dim button but at the lowest it was too bright). I put a tint film on it for about 1.5 yrs. After that time the clock still worked very well but the LED light started to fade and I pulled off the tint and set it to it’s highest brightness and this worked perfectly. Now in 2022 I can barely see it because it’s too dim, can’t see it at all at an angle or if the sun is brightening the room or if there’s a reflection. Don’t think I’ll be buying another one. Tried looking to replace the LED but no luck. My last alarm clock lasted a decade, this one made it to 3 years, such a shame.

Very Happy I Purchased
I am a light sleeper, that being said I can be woken up by a cotton ball hitting the carpet…I exaggerate…not by much though. I was waking up 1 1/2 hrs earlier than I had to. My husband gets up, I hear the cereal being pouring, the microwave door shutting, etc. He suggested I try a sound machine, but another thing about me sleeping is I like complete silence. I gave it a shot though. This sound machine really works for me. I use the rain shower sound, and it doesn’t bother me, actually helps put me to sleep and stay there. Another thing I don’t like when I’m sleeping is light. Well this clock has a feature where you can dim or completely turn off the front clock. Awesome !! The projection light was too bright for my taste, but that’s just me, seeings how I would be happy to sleep in an underground cave. I did cut a little cloth with a tiny hole in it and secured to the projection light, works fine. I can still see the time on the ceiling, with a dimmed light. Another plus is I leave the rain shower sound on all through the night and the alarm goes off as set in the morning. Very Pleased.

Simply perfect!
I didn’t know what to expect with this since there was very mixed reviews. However, the idea of having sound machine, clock and charging station sounded pretty perfect for a family with a little one so I decided to just order and see for myself. Upon receiving it I really liked the look of it—sleek, matte black and modern. I didnt’ even have to open the manual to figure out how to set the clock and sound for my very sleepy and fussy baby right away—took less than 3 mins. The overall sound is also good for how inexpensive and small the alarm clock is and is and the white noise sounds like the “ocean sound” that my baby is used to from another app—therefore this mama is very pleased! The brightness of the clock numbers are not too “bright” nor distracting for our needs (since we use it in our shared room with baby and planning to use later in his own nursery room. I’m very excited about trying the radio during the day and knowing what time it is/keeping track throughout the nice when my baby wakes up to nurse. Don’t think about it, just buy it before they’re all gone!

Projector works great.
Some people posted they thought the projected time was too bright, but we find it ideal. It’s easy to see even after the sun starts to come up, and when it’s fully dark the time on the ceiling gives the room a faint glow – kind of like a night light. Some also said the volume was too loud. We don’t think so. In fact when using the campfire sound we have to turn it up some. The prerecorded sounds are most certainly looped but I’ve listened carefully for any breaks in the sound but can’t hear any breaks – all very continuous.

At first I liked this but the more I’ve used it the more it pisses me off. Here are the 3 issues that have rendered it essentially useless:1. Some of the sounds have such obvious loops that go for like 5-10 seconds before restarting and when this is the only thing you hear at night it can be very easy to focus on that, get distracted, and not be able to sleep (the opposite of intended effect!). Such an easy fix just run a longer loop that blends well!2. There are background sounds beyond the white noise, like sounds that should not be there that do not go with the white noise. Its hard to explain but i’ll be in bed and i’ll just start hearing this dim strange noise and wonder where its coming from. It repeats at exact intervals and then I think maybe its the white noise thing so I turn it off get back in bed and bam no more strange sound. Then I turn it back on and strange sound is back. The funny thing is for every white noise option there is a different but equally annoying strange sound accompanying it… Maybe this is just my machine? The strange sound is dim but when you are in bed and hear nothing but the white noise machine it is easy to hear it, which prevents me from sleeping so I have to turn the machine off.3. YOU CAN’T DIM THE INSANELY BRIGHT CLOCK WHEN YOU TURN THE WHITE NOISE ON! How stupid is that, when the white noise is off you can dim the clock to the perfect brightness but when it is on you can’t?! The whole point is to be able to use all at the same time, it would be a simple programming fix or switch addition to change that, this is just pure laziness on Homedics part. I swear they haven’t tested this piece of junk at all.

Awesome alarm/noise machine combo
So glad I purchased this clock! I needed a clock with 2 RELIABLE alarms (my old clock kept changing one alarm time to match the other) since my husband gets up for an earlier work shift. I love that I can see on the screen very clearly that the alarm is turned on AND for what time. No more paranoia about them being set correctly! And I can choose what sounds go off (radio etc) and at what volume. It also plays the noise machine up until the alarm and then switches over to what I set. The alarms also stay set to “on” until I turn them off, so no need to worry Mon-Fri about remembering to reset. Just remember on Friday to turn off for the weekend! It’s super impressive! If I had to discuss some downsides, I’d say the noises on the noise machine aren’t super crisp/clear (compared to the one I was using until switching), but I was fine even the first night. Also, I think people have noted that the blinking dots on the projector are annoying but I dont stare at them so they dont bother me. I’m overall thrilled with this clock!

Perfect
Needed a sound machine for myself and wanted a clock to go with it. Perfect. This could even be used as a child’s sound machine! These sounds actually have great choices! I was worried about the Projector for the clock time- not an issue. It can easily be turned off. The machine remembers the last used sound so that all i have to do is press power and let my head fall on my pillow – my favorite sound turns on. 👍🏼👍🏼 I actually like the little cell phone holder in the back. Nothing fancy but encourages me to leave my cell phone down more while at home. Volume options are great. Another review said the lowest volume was too loud – they are crazy. Great volume range selections to choose from. I would by this again!! We have owned 4 sound machines in caring for multiple children and this is the sound machine i will go for if i need another replacement.

Nice clock…… But
I purchased this clock primarily for its ability to function as a sound machine and project time on the ceiling. I would like to add that I have used an older Homedic clock for the past 10 years that provided the same functions. In regard to the clock itself the display is very crisp and easy to read, while the brightness can be adjusted to 3 different levels. The sound machine provides good quality sound but like others have mentioned, the volume control does not provide enough adjustable. My previous model had a dial that provided infinite adjustment, while this unit has 2 buttons to toggle the volume up and down. I have it set on the lowest level #1 and still wish I could go down a little further. Turning it up to level #2 and its too load to fall asleep. The time projector uses a white light that is very bright and acts like a night light. Personally, I believe this is way to bright and have placed a red camera filter over it that made it perfect. The older model used a green light and did not light up the entire room. I will say that the projected time is very crisp and easy to read. Unfortunately there are not allot of other clocks on the market that provide all of these functions so I will probably keep it for now.

Good noise maker
Bought this for the noise maker to drown out sounds like dogs barking and television sounds since they tend to keep me up when I’m trying to fall asleep. Doesn’t drown out low frequency sounds of course like sub bass, soundbars, these sort of things.More things: You can set two alarms, set noise maker to nature sounds which could be nice though I think the “Fan” noise is best. Has a radio and you can set your alarm to sound the radio when it goes off, good if you hate waking up to sirens and beeping sounds like me. You can charge your phone in it too, it even has a little holder for it.Cons: It is too bright. It has setting to turn up/down the clock brightness but even it’s lowest setting is too bright. I’ve gotten used to it over time though. I tend to turn up the brightness accidentally when I’m reaching over to slap the snooze button while still half asleep, same with the projection light. Then I notice the next night and have to adjust everything again. But that’s just my own stupidity.

Only Lasted Four Weeks 🙁
I was so super excited when I first got this alarm! I loved being able to look at the wall to see the time. It really help with eliminating me looking at my phone during the night, which was much needed. The sounds were good but I found myself loving the campfire one. I, also, learned quickly that you can only snooze for an hour straight before it gives up on you. Super great clock if you only need it for a few weeks. I’m very disappointed as I enjoyed it very much.

Great clock.
I had another clock similar to this one by the same company for many years. The sounds finally went out. I ordered this one to replace it & I love it. It has extra features like a charging USB & a phone holder. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is that the sounds are very loud, even on the lowest setting. I’m going to try to find something to muffle the noise a bit.

Good enough – with some caveats
The HoMedics SoundSpa Recharged Sound Machine is a good clock radio. I had a Sony DreamMachine that died after 20+ years of faithful service and was looking for a new clock radio – there are not many options. The speaker (there’s only one, pointing out the back) is on the tinny side. The “project the clock on the ceiling” feature – I could live without. The top of the unit has a rubbery mat over the actual buttons – it’s possible to hit the right button without looking or being bleary-eyed at 3AM, but you’ll probably miss the button you’re trying to hit, screw some thing up and have to turn on the light to fix it. The volume levels (they are digital steps, not an analog dial) are too coarse and anything other than 1 or 2 is far too loud for the nature sounds. The backlight has 4 levels, off, bright, really bright and way too freakin’ bright. Again – the steps aren’t set up for the intended use as a bedside clock radio. You can tone down the back-light with some “dimming sheets” (available on Amazon) Lastly, not a deal breaker for me, but… There is a place to set your iPhone and charge it. BUT – there’s no way to listen to your iPhone thru the speaker. HUH??? That doesn’t make much sense. The nature sounds are actually quite good (except that they play thru the tinny speaker). But anything other than a volume setting of 1 is too loud.My suggestions for HoMedics -1) Ditch the projector.2) Put in a better speaker.3) Adjust the volume and brightness settings to be more in-line with the intended use – specifically, on a bedside table at night.4) Add an Aux jack (or iPhone integration) so the iPhone stand is actually useful.5) Add some tactile “bumps” or something to the top so controls can be “felt” and operated without looking.6) Add 24 Hour time display. In the current market – there are so few choice, this is about as good as it gets. With some thoughtful re-engineering, this could be a killer clock-radio.

Very disappointed
I bought this to replace an older alarm clock from this same company. The older unit still works well but just doesn’t look great in my room anymore. This clock does not automatically update via satellite like the old one did.The soundtracks are only 5 second loops and are very distracting while I’m trying to sleep with them on. Some are better than others such as the white noise because you can’t notice the loop. The ceiling projector does not aim 360 degrees like my old one so I can’t get the numbers to line up with the ceiling without turning the clock to the point where I can’t read directly from the clock face. Also, the numbers on the projector bleed light on the ceiling and is just poor quality.

Exactly what I needed
I was mainly shopping for a noise machine. When I saw that most of them had clock/alarm too I thought that would be good – I could replace the clock on my nightstand rather than add another item to the tabletop. Very happy with this so far, no complaints. I read a lot of reviews of other items before purchasing, so my comments will focus on items that differ between models.Pros:- My primary need was sound machine. This one has 8 choices which is less than some machines, but one of them was fine for me. After a few weeks using it all night every night I never notice when the audio pattern repeats, which is good.- Some have complained about the volume settings on this or other models. I use this on 1 (lowest) volume, which is fine for me.- Time projects onto the wall or ceiling. This is not necessary, but is nice to have. Compared to other models, this one is extremely flexible with a swiveling piece that can place the projected image just about wherever you want (I display it on the ceiling). You can flip the projection vertically to make sure it’s right side up wherever you display it. Reviews said that other models have this display feature but with less flexibility so people find it difficult to put the image in a visible spot or to get it right side up. This one does the projector display right.- Display is big and bright without being distracting at night, both on the machine and the projected image. There’s a dimmer buttom to make adjustments. Color is nice, appears slightly bluish white.- Indoor temperature sensor is nice.Cons:- Only one slight con but still giving 5 stars. I’m not sure how accurately it keeps time. After only a few weeks I noticed that it’s a little farther off of the “official time” on my cell phone than it was when I first set it. When I say a little farther off, it’s probably less than one minute off, but I was surprised that it moved enough for me to notice in only a few weeks. Not Used Yet:- Auto-Off Timer- Radio- Alarm- Smartphone holder- USB charging port

Gets the job done with compact size and good options
I got this unit to replace my Homedics SS-4000 clock radio/sound machine because I wanted a smaller form factor/footprint alarm clock + sound machine combo and this met my need (combo alarm clock/sound machine units are surprisingly tough to find so options limited). I like that this unit allows me to set two alarms, this is a nice improvement over the SS-4000 model. Some people have said the lowest volume setting is too loud when it is on as a sound machine – I agree the lowest volume setting is a little high but the speaker is in back of the unit and there is that pull out caddy thing allowing you to store a mobile phone but in which instead you can put some foam to lessen the sound (which I’ve done and that worked for me, I’m not using that caddy to store my phone so no loss for me). It was also mentioned that the buttons on top of the unit are hard to find in the dark. This is also true, but the snooze button is easy to find since it has its own shape and that is key for me in the AM. The other buttons really have limited tactile features to denote what they are. Homedics needs to add tactile features for each button like some raised arrows for vol up/down, and raised +/- to denote the change station buttons; this was for sure an oversight in this design. But the ‘Power’ button to turn on the sound noises is in the lower left so I can find that one somewhat easily by touch, and since that is really the only button I need to find in the dark, along with the Snooze button, this unit works well for me.

LCD Screen Only 1/4 Working After 1 Year
For the first year this clock has been fine. Projection is not the sharpest but the sound noise option and the indoor temeperature features are very nice to have. HOWEVER, after one year (of course after the warranty), LCD screen began to fail. I included a picture. Since then, it has gotten worse. Note, the projection was not affected. ALSO, I notice the price doubled since I bought it. Would I buy it again given my notes here. NO.

Worked great for two weeks
Worked great for about two weeks then the projector would get really bright and start flickering and the front display would go out. Plus the alarm stated going off at 2:43 am for no reason, and no, we did not either alarm. We sent it back.

Sounds play all night, a few kinks but otherwise great
This is a great clock. I really love it! I have a few nitpicky things that probably won’t matter to most but have come up in the past month since I’ve started using it.1. The volume control is sticky. Sometimes you can’t turn the volume up without first turning it down (and vice versa).2. There’s a noticeable loop on almost all the sounds. There’s a weird chirp every few seconds on the Fan noise. The only ones we really use are the rain, thunderstorm, and ocean because the loop is natural enough that it doesn’t annoy us.3. If you like to hit snooze when your alarm goes off, you will be in silence until it goes off again- the snooze button turns your sleep noise off too. Again, not a big deal to some but it would be nice if it continued for our preference.4. If you have the sleep noise on and need to dim the display, you have to turn the noise off which is inconvenient.
