I can’t speak to the rusting concerns, but just wanted to note that for people that are concerned about the spring mechanism failing, you do not have to use it. There is another hole in the jug cap that faces down into the tray, and that hole has an optional cap. The manufacturer recommends that it remains capped unless you use a filter, but it’s not required – normal gravity water feeders work with an open hole, not a spring-loaded one. I can confirm from testing that if you leave that second hole open, the jug will work exactly as expected and always keep the tray filled to the appropriate level, up until the point at which it is empty. I honestly don’t know what the purpose of the spring mechanism is; it’s really not required or useful. Regardless, this solves the problem with the spring, which many people had issues with.

Best water dispenser for my pets!!! I bought one for myself a few months ago and wanted to use it for a while before writing a review. It is the best design I have come across… I have two large dogs and 4 cats, and the water gets dirty before the jug empties. I used to have a 5 gallon dispenser that was just a regular 5 gallon jug and you put it upside down on the bowl. Well I couldn’t change the water without spilling it or it being the biggest hassle. Now I just twist and lift up the jug by the handle and grab the steel bowl quickly wipe it out and twist the jug back on in between fill ups! I hated cleaning the old bowl because it was hard to get into the area inside the bowl and it was hard to rinse out the soap. I now gladly and simply change the water every day since my dogs get it so dirty! Which is another benefit… I never could see how nasty the water got in the old beige bowl, with the steel bowl you can see all the grime better! I read about rust and complaining about the handle… I haven’t had any rust, nor have I tried to take that black handle off, it just makes it look nice.

I read a lot of the reviews for what the negatives were. Based on those I decided I still wanted it. To refute the negative reviews I am including pictures to accompany my feedback. The people who said theirs leaked did not put the plug over the hole where the optional filter would go. Hole was plugged before use and I’ve had no occurrences of leaking. The metal tray removes easily for cleaning when refilling OR in between filling if you wish to remove the canister it will release the spring and stop water flow so you can remove and replace the tray and then after locking the canister back in place the spring will be pushed in and water will flow again. It’s summer now so our dogs have been drinking quickly and we have not needed frequent wipe downs. They do have long facial hair and I expect to clean the tray more often when the weather is cooler. I like the option to remove and clean the tray between fillings. The canister is mostly opaque as noted in some reviews. But I am able to see through it enough to tell if it is near empty. It is just refilled before this picture so it is more difficult to see. But when it is lower the line is more noticeable. This may vary depending on ones own visibility, but I am able to see it. The lock and unlock symbols are difficult to see unless looking closely for them. One reviewer colored the symbols with Sharpie and I may do so as well. But I have not found it too difficult to identify so far during my use. I am very pleased with this purchase. Our previous water dish was impossible to clean and grew mildew and other grossness. This jug can be cleaned inside and I don’t have to worry about fitting my hand or sponge in there to clean it. It is quite easy to do. I should have photographed that. I hope these are helpful points. The other reviewers that liked the product mentioned a few of these things so I am combining their tips with my own. I definitely recommend this water dispenser.

This water station is awesome. We have had other gravity feed dog water stations and they were difficult to clean and heavy to refill. I got sick of them and tried a bowl but I was filling it 3 times a day. I figured I would take a chance on this one. Glad I did. I love the stainless bowl, and the unit is easy to clean. My only complaint is that I have to fill it almost every other day. I should have gotten the large model. I still might. We have three 50 lb dogs. For a one dog household the size would probably be perfect.Another reader said the dogs spill water. This does have a small bowl and sometimes water will get all over if all three drink, but I just put a rubber mat under it. For me that is not an issue since it is on ceramic tile but if you have hardwood floors, you would definitely need something under it.I would certainly recommend it!

I love, Love, LOVE this pet food station! I’ve been using it for months, as I recently found myself in a situation where I may be away from the house for a few days at a time, and wanted to make sure that my cats always had fresh food and water (I also have the matching water feeder, which is here:
PetSafe Healthy Pet Water Station, Medium, PFD17-11855
).What I love about this:1. It’s *incredibly* easy to use – the cap just screws off, and you can dump in up to 5 pounds of dry food.2. Love the stainless steel bowl, very easy to remove and throw in the dishwasher.3. Unlike some other gravity dry food feeders, this doles out the food perfectly – it never over fills the dish, but the dish constantly has enough food in it.I’ve used this with three different kinds of dry food, and it has never failed (although granted they all are basically small, round kibble).Anyways, two thumbs up, and 5 stars, for this particular feeder. It’s great being able to be gone for a couple of days and know that my cats won’t starve.

Hey, I’m James Brains with the Brains Report, and this is my video review of the PetSafe Healthy Pet Water Station. There are 3 main reasons why we like the PetSafe Healthy Pet Water Station:1. Clean – Our preschooler likes to play with the pet’s water. This water station reduces the amount available to him. In fact, he’s shown little interest in it.2. Easy to Use – I didn’t even have to read the directions. Just pop and fill and replace. It’s a PFR operation.3. Easy to Clean – Remove the stainless steel bowl and use your soap-dispensing dish scrubber to gitter done.We got this for our two cats and dog for Christmas last year. You see, we have a family tradition of getting each other water bowls. Much like Stranger in a Strange Land, we believe the sharing of water and water receptacles is a true sign of friendship and love. The pets immediately took to the water. Even the cats like doing their weird licky thing in it. We have not had any issues with rust, and we like that you can see the water level to know when to add more. Also, it’s BPA-free and dishwasher safe, though I don’t think it would fit in our dishwasher. This model improved our home décor immensely. Before, people would come over and say, “Ewww, let’s leave.” Now, they stay for hours at a time. Some visitors even take their shoes off and get comfortable!Overall, I would recommend this to anyone who has pets and doesn’t like giving them water too often. We only have to fill it about every week or so. If you don’t have pets, I really don’t know how you would get much use out of this. Maybe for some weird BDSM play? I don’t know. It’s your kink. Anyway, five stars! If you have any questions, please comment below. I’m here to help.

I have been in search of an actual gravity feeder but nothing ever worked. I dont have to touch this feeder at all, the food just comes out. In comparison the one i got from walmart, you have to constantly tug at it so the food comes out. Def. would reccomend to others.

I had this product in a larger size but wanted a smaller size after one of my cats died. The only feeder I could find in the pet stores is all plastic and none of the product is dishwasher safe. I was relieved to find this smaller size of the product that I had earlier, and it has a dishwasher safe stainless steel water bowl. No contest. The newer products that I found were all plastic that looked cheap and none of which was dishwasher safe. I think that product was made by PetMate. I’m sticking with PetSafe!

UPDATE 12/26/2018: This water station is STILL going strong almost four years later! Our two cats share it with our dog Sailor now, too. And one of them is a huge European Maine Coon who LOVES to play in the water. 🤣 He’s quite entertained by the gurgling sound and bubbles the jug makes after you refill and replace it on top of the reservoir. These days, it’s not too heavy for any of our four girls (two 15yo & two 12yo) to refill. Turns out teenagers are just lazy. Go figure! 😉 Anyway, it’s difficult to say how much the furry kiddos are drinking vs. how much Lenny (the Coonie) is splashing and dragging around the kitchen. Just know this product has withstood the test of time – no rusting, no nasty growth on the plastic like some bowls. Still in great shape! Totally recommend!Original Review: My Rottweiler/Lab mix Sailor drinks a LOT of water every day. This pet water station by PetSafe has helped save my sanity. I no longer have to fill his water bowl 2-3 times each day, or have to nag one of our kiddos to do so. This is a good sized station but, like I said, he drinks a lot, so we probably now fill this 2-3 times each week. Huge improvement! It’s a little heavy for our 9yo girls to be able to refill it, but our 12yo girls have no problem. What I appreciate the most is the metal drinking tray that removes for easy cleaning and sanitizing – just pop it in the dishwasher. Sailor took right to drinking out of it, so no problems there either.NOTE: This product was a personal purchase for myself or a family member at the normal retail price. I also rely on honest customer reviews when I’m making purchase decisions, so I do NOT give positive reviews to products that don’t deserve them. Please feel free to ask me any questions about this item, and I’ll do my best to answer.

I had one of those electric feeders which eventually my cats learned to move around. I was looking for a feeder with a secure top and (ideally) metal feeders. The tops of the feeders screw into place and food comes out as food is consumed. Cats haven’t knocked over yet. One cat did try to move bowl to see if more food would come out. But no other movement after that. I plan on using while I go on a trip. Cat sitter will only need to make sure feeder is filled and shake container when needed.
