10 reviews for Sabrent 4-Port USB 3.0 Hub for iMac Slim Uni-Body.

  1. Amazon Customer

After reading some of the reviews for this hub I was somewhat skeptical, however, I decided to order anyway. One reviewer stated that they could not charge their phone because the ports have no power, not the case, I can charge my phone, charge my Bose wireless speaker, etc….. Most negative reviews state that is hard to install the hub. It could not have been simpler, really, it took me but one second. I have an iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017). If you own one of these, this hub works perfect. .

Cons: Easy to accidentally push out when plugging in USB cordPros: Looks great, fits perfect, style/color matches iMacVery easy to install and fits flush with my iMac (27″) screen. It’s not a big deal at all, but I have found that when I plug something in it has a tendency to push the hub out a little bit. I just make sure I hold it from the back while I plug something in. My only regret is that I didn’t go for the option that hard a card reader as well. Great accessory if you don’t mind the cords coming out the front.

Ok iMac limited USB and need more, what is even more important is the need to have them easily accessible to plug something in. The position works great. if you have a 21.5 it fits in any of the plugs for your choice of mounting. on the 27 in either plug 1 or 4 – no glue, no screws, no other sticky stuff. Happy IO bought this for the 27″ I am now going to get one for my wife’s 21.5

This little gem snaps onto the bottom of you Apple iMac. It provides 4 USB port making it much easier to plug in A USB device for charging (iPhone) or a quick transfer of files from a USB drive. Having the ports onthe front are more convenient than struggling to access the USB ports on the back of the iMac. A big plus is there is no USB cable, the uSB connection is all integrated with in the unit when you snap it onto your iMac. If you want there is an optional power supply you can added it, I did.

UpdateI called apple to figure out why the hub was not working. They told me to restart the iMac, which I did and it started working with no issues.Older reviewI am upset because my hub does not work. I am able to charge my iPhone but it does not recognize my USB nor will it allow me to access my iPhone with iTunes. It does not work. I would will be returning item.-27in iMac 2017

It is MUCH more convenient to be able to plug a flash drive or an external drive enclosure into the front of my iMac instead of having to reach around the back to plug it in.Keep in mind that this unit is plugged into one USB port on the back of the computer so what you plug into it can only the amount of power equivalent to ONE USB port. For example: trying to plug two flash drives into this unit at the same time will probably fail simply because the single USB port that this unit receives it power from is not able to power two USB flash drives at the same time. But plugging in a mouse and a keyboarding an external hard drive that has its own power supply … all at the same time … no problem! Works like a champ!A side note to Amazon: at the beginning of this review Amazon asked me to rate the “cord length” … take a look at the picture. It doesn’t even HAVE a cord. The second thing I was asked to rate said “for traveling” … This unit is specifically designed for use with a DESKTOP computer. I don’t know of anyone that tries to ‘travel’ while dragging along their desktop computer. So you may want to rethink what would be more appropriate for rating. Such as ‘functionality’, or ‘ease of installation’, or ‘convenience’ …. all of which I would give a 5 star rating.

I’m kicking myself for waiting almost a year to buy this. It is as close to perfect as one could expect. The fit and finish is outstanding. If you see reviews or images where the alignment is slightly off, that is because the owner didn’t install it correctly. Performance is outstanding. I used Black Magic Disk Speed Test to test Read Write performance from the rear port and through the Hub, and there was no measurable difference. I do wish it came with the power adapter to provide bus power to the hub, but most people probably don’t need it so I understand the reason for excluding it. The device must be installed in either the first or last USB port. I recommend the one farthest from the SD card slot. I felt like it fit better there and it doesn’t block the other USB ports when you reach around the side of the computer.

This is great. I detest having to rotate my iMac 27″ to reach the USB ports. I also don’t like having unwieldy usb hubs laying around. The Sorbent 4-port hub fits perfectly. Snapped on in a sec. To install, I placed the front tabs in their position and then moved the USB plug to the desired position. Went great. It is made our of hard plastic… feels a little cheap.. but everything fits secure. I have used it a few times to make sure it works. Things seem fine. I do use external speakers for my iMac. I did switch over to the internal speakers after installing the USB hub and can not tell any problems there… but again my norm are the external speakers (as well as air play). I’ve added a few photos so that you can see how it works.

I have an iMac and became frustrated having to either reach back and guess at what I’m plugging a cable/flash drive into, or rotate the iMac so you can see the plugs. Guess what – sometimes you need to plug in USB devices!I stumbled across this and did an insta-buy. I wish I would have found this years ago as it would have made using the iMac a lot less frustrating.Installation of this device is not too hard (although you push harder than you think you need to). Plug into a USB port, align it, and it kind of snaps in. No drivers. No software. it just works.I don’t think it makes the imac look bad. Yes, you can see four USB ports on the front of it. However, it is so much easier to access the ports.

  10. Honest Unbiased Opinions

If you own an iMac THIS is one of the MUST HAVE accessories you need. I have wondered for years why Apple, all about design and function, keeps their ports BEHIND the machine where it is fails completely in the convenience category…prettier yes – but not in the least bit convenient. I always thought it would have been great had they put a few USB ports in the stand facing forward, for the mouse/keyboard, but no…apparently not pretty enough. BUT, along came this USB Hub that extends the ports out front and viola, problem solved. Most USB Ports are supposedly a 50/50 odds of plugging them in correctly, but when you can’t SEE the port and have to grope around in the dark hoping to get it in right, the odds of increasing your frustration level go up exponentially faster. THIS device solves all those problems, well worth the money and most definitely worth the convenience. Well done!
